Untitled
2022
Oil, pigments, gesso and wood glue on canvas
130 x 100cm
An intricate photoshop collage from 3 pictures I took out of an aeroplane window serves as starting point for this painting. Through repetition, cropping, rotation and other visual manipulations, I wanted to create an image which, although still perceived as a landscape of sorts, was easily understood to be a collage and not a singular photograph. Using this as a source, I was interested in exploring how the image regained a lot of its credibility as an “existing” landscape when translated into a painting.
This painting was exhibited in 2024 as part of the show Landscapes towards the end of the Maas.
