In the exhibition “(in)vocation”, artist Bruno Neves researches the mysterious history and oeuvre of the Hillevliet building (located in the south of Rotterdam), with a focus on its previous function as a vocational school.

Through a selection of archival material ranging back to the 1920’s and a new series of oil paintings, the exhibition reflects on the role this building has played in the neighbourhood and the city of Rotterdam during its 98 years of existence, and all the life that its hallways and classrooms have seen. Inspired by archival footage from the 1970’s, the paintings invoke a bygone era when craftsmanship stood central, and the means of production of household furniture and appliances still relied greatly on human labour.
